From the UK, here's Lord Rockingham's XI (pron. eleven), and a rarity that can be found on the lounge/exotica compilation 'Frolic Diner 3'.
Lord Rockingham's XI were the house band for an English TV show called 'Oh, Boy', which ran from 1958 to mid-1959.

They were fronted by Scottish composer Harry Robinson (real name was Robertson), and were comprised of no less than 11 band members.

To me, what stands out on this 1:45 of silliness is the Hammond organ playing by the lovely Cherry Wainer, who hails from South Africa. There's just a lovely bass to it!

This tune was a minor hit on the US charts, reaching number 96.
Anyway, if you like this record, purchase Frolic Diner.
I have no financial interest in uploading these videos other than introducing an otherwise unknown public to an unknown music genre!
Enjoy!

  • oh my god where did you find this

  • @potheadj the film material is actually from their TV show 'oh boy' and goes with a different song. I dug it up on the BBC archives years ago (I think it was BBC - not 100 per cent sure), and I put it to the CD track.

  • that looks like don storer on drums. Am i right?

  • I double checked it - you are indeed correct! He also appears with Cherry Wainer later, in the mid-sixties. There are quite a few Wainer/Storer videos here on Youtube.

  • Love it!

  • thanks!!

  • This was the first record I ever bought with my own (pocket) money. I had to save up for about a month. The first time I played it those opening bass pedals jumped the arm off the record. I had to rest 2d on the arm to hold it down.

It was also the first record I ever broke, so a few years later I bought it on vinyl, but it never sounded as good as the 78... :)

  • We all know how we got here, watching TV and my trusty SoundHound lol
