Crochet is viewed as a female thing to do. Truth is, crochet is a form of knot tying using a hook and yarn. The skill gives you the power to create projects with the colours you like and the patterns you want. Not everything we want in life is for sale.

  • I started to learn to crochet from my grandmother but we don't live close or see each other often anymore. I do it and feel closer to her. My best friend is a guy and we learned knitting together. I'm only 20 and everyone says it is such an old lady skill but we love doing it!

  • It's a big time stereotypical view of this craft... people are sadly mistaken! :) MKL

  • I'm glad to see a guy crocheting. A real man doesn't care what other's think. You're very talented. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. I've been crocheting for two years now. Didn't wanna learn but I'm glad the old lady I was taken care of talked me into it cuz I'm addicted and find it helps prevent my joints from being tight. :)

  • I'm just going through my account to catch back up on the comments...

I was just telling a friend today that it's great for prevention of arthritis and joint relief...

However, it's still very much something women do.. but I don't care.. I am me and this is what I can do... and I am proud of it.

    :) Michael

  • Eric you did a great job considering it was your first attempt!

  • I watched my pastors wife crochet for 7 years. I tried so many times, but I figured i just didn't have the knack or the skill. I finally admitted to myself is that skill requires practice...so i figured i should start now. I've been doing it my self now for a little more than a month. I'm visual spatial so these tutorials have been AWESOME! It also helped that my daughter motivated me after I asked her to make me a scarf said " You want it? Do it yourself! So I did! Thanks a bunch!

  • I learned crochet from my Grandmother and my Mom. I crochet some stuff in HS but when I was adult I took it up myself. I use to crochet swatches then tear them out over and over again. On purpose. It was practice and no stress because I didn’t have to complete something. No I think I’m a great hooker J I may be a little odd because I do find it therapeutic to untangle a knotted ball of yarn. LOL.

  • When I was in Hong Kong, there was a yarn store managed by a man (not sure if he owned that store), he can knit and crochet very well. I mean man can do it very well. Just like cooking, a lot of chef are men.

  • Crochet, Knit, Tatting, etc. are all art forms. So it does not matter the gender of the artist. As a young girl I thought I was just making garments, doilies or other items. As an adult I create art, at times one of a kind items, therefore I consider myself an artist since I knit, crochet, tat, do several forms of needle point, sew, etc. etc. We are able to express ourselves thru our work. My hat off to the men that creat art with yarn. Keep creating art : )

  • fight the power!!, im a girl and i crochet but i do agree that guys sould be able to crochet without being called a sissie, or a girl.! FIGHT THE POWER!

I'm just learning to crochet again all i have ever made is granny square blankets. I would like to make a blanket that is two colors that has a Z in the center can up help me. I have no idea how to do this

  • You know, women used to not be allowed to crochet or knit. It was considered men's work because people like fishermen needed to know how to tie knots for nets. So you are absolutely right, though I have only actually met one male knitter=[
