I represent a Varamgian Guard just after the year 1000.... so, very early in their creation There were mercenaries at the time who also worked the trade routes, sometimes on the same side, sometimes at odds with the guard. We have a couple guys who represent mercs, but i am a Varangian

@skallagrimm by merc i mean to distinguish from the later 'hellenized' native varangians of the 12th C onwards that wore byzantine armour abit like scaled down horseless cataphracts. because unless im mistaken the varangian guard was, in essence a semi permanent mercenary force abit like the latinkon . whoes job was guarding the emporer, thats what i mean.

@elgostine the helm actually started as a later great helm, but i cut the bottom off to make it appear more like a spangenhelm, then added the horsetail plume to give that Eastern flavor.

@sirVhailor why would we want to fight like you pathetic polocks. I like that you guys fight with steel, but you look just like the SCA in the way you fight. Oh hey, try doing this with correct armor and helmets for the Viking period too. It's a little more dificult when you try to put on a show without hurting your buddy before the next one.... oh yea, and suck my cock!

a good idea for a viking movie would be to make a screenplay of bernard cornwells saxon series, dealing with the conflicts around alfred the great,

And also, It could be like an action movie, with the Varangians in battle, and there could also be a "romance" part of it-bring some females to the Viking world ;) - like the Varangian guardsman we follow in the story, falls in love with some noble girl, and its all forbidden (Because girls like what they can't have ;) ) and he's sworn to protect the family, and they live on some province of the empire, and he dies defending them - end credits, roll on the Amon Amarth.....Feel free to Head bang.
