The pope is a symbol.The diff bet a sign & a symbol is that while a sign points to nothn else & is in itself what it means, a symbol is actually a sign that transcends its form -it points to another thing other than itself. Since God is an infinte being we can not see, we need a finite being we can see, feel, touch, relate to. The pope is a symbol of God's church, w/c is a symbol of God's love.Catholics know the pope is not God but as finite humans, they act towards him as a symbol of God

MY buddy dragged me to an Obama speach a few months ago, and the people there were more animated. Does that mean they were worshiping a false god? How narrow minded.

im not talkin about then im just talking about in general most people of the catholic religion seem to treat the pope as an idol almost. i know hes really important and stuff and i respect that but people need to know that he doesnt have the ability to truly "bless" people in a since that they will be prosperous their entire life. he is still human

How is cheering and excitement at seeing the Pope worship? People act exactly the same way at concerts and parades, yet they don't get accused of worshiping the musicians or the floats.
