Among many other firsts, GG had to have been the first legendary singer to basically allow any of his fans to function as his backing band, regardless of whether they had a clue how to play or not. That must have been a dream for a lot of these people. Many would say that GG didn't know how to sing anyway. But he was clearly a very talented punk/hard rock singer if you listen to the early stuff with the Jabbers, and he was very famous in the end regardless of his perceived technical talent.
