Sunny Savage spends some time in the Appalachian Mountains with Doug Elliott and Frank Cook at an absolutely wonderful wild plant retreat with these gentle giants of the plant world and learns so much from them both. Doug is a gifted mountain man who, in addition to his knowledge of the natural world, shares his enthusiasm for it through stories and song. He is a national treasurekeeping the stories and songs alive. Visit his website http://dougelliott.com/ to see the wide range of CDs and books he has available. Doug is a tender-hearted man, with a lifetime of experience living off the land and staying attuned to the plant world.

This video features highlights of a guided plant walk on Bluff Mountain, North Carolina. Discover the multitude of edible wild spring greens growing there: toothwart, phacilia, saxifrage, branch lettuce, gall ot the earth, lady's thumb, giant chickweed, sweet cicely, wild leeks, spiderwort, oxalis (wood sorrel), wood nettle, blue violet, wild cucumber and Pennsylvania winter cress (creasy greens). What a feast!

Sunny's wild food television series Hot on the Trail with Sunny Savage airs on Veria Network (DISH channel 218 and Verizon FIOS channel 162).

  • super fun day....have changed all the video titles...thanks for the input on that! Trilliums are one of my all-time favorite flowers...and we did eat ramps and morels...no fiddleheads that I remember.

Still haven't seen The Piano! :)
