What is Relay?
Relay For Life is an international fundraiser that raises nearly $400 million dollars for the American Cancer Society every year. Last year there were over 5 thousand Relays in 18 countries around the world. Last year ACS funded over $7.9 million in grants to 20 cancer researchers in CT. 15 were from Yale.
What about Yale Relay?
Yale's Relay was founded in 2005 by a group of students who wanted to lead Yale in the fight against cancer. Since its inception, we've raised over $900,000 and this year hope to break the $1 million mark.
What do I have to do?
By signing up for Relay you help us by fundraising. This can be anything from actually holding a fundraiser as a team (Ex. bake sale, benefit concert) to just sending out emails to relatives and friends asking for donations. On the night of Relay, each team is given a campsite and at least one member of the team must be walking around the track at throughout the night. The event is also filled with fun activities, performance, and competitions. Last year's event included a bounce house, Family Feud-style game show with professors, and a Red Bull pong tournament.
