The Chinese government has stepped up efforts to make data on the country's air quality more transparent, including allowing the public to tour the country's pollution monitoring centre.

It is a rare bow to public pressure, as citizens have been complaining of hugely underestimated rates of pollution.

Many experts say the government has not taking enough steps to fight the "hazardous" problem, caused mainly by the usage of fossil fuels, which many of China's nearly 1.4 billion residents rely on for energy.

Melissa Chan reports from Beijing.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 So what did they do NOW?

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 Well I don't think you should be saying "evil" to the communist regime, look every government has its own good points and bad points, I find that people exaggerate Chinese problems bigger than others. Well okay if there wasn't the communist regime, there OF COURSE would be freedom, BUT China wouldn't have a strong government, possible direct government influence from foreign governments and it wouldn't have the world's 2nd largest economy.

  • Beijing citizens are starting to open their eyes

23 years ago, thousands of them were gunned down by the evil communist regime

  • These tiny concessions dont make up for 62 years of Communist propaganda

ANYTHING critical of the regime is banned in China

And anyone who thinks it does is either

    a) A Chinese nationalist doing the CCPs dirty work for them

    b) Brainwashed or

    c) Very naive

    FUCK THE CCP

  • @wangsishuo

Bullshit. If you think the Chinese regime 'listens' to their people look at what they do with dissent

  • At least the government listened what their citizen wants.

  • What is ACTA?
