  • The Vornadoes of that era were all variable speed, then they began to cheapen the line with three speed models in the 1990's. Their "top tier" fans all had the variable control.

I remember the first of those fans in the 1980's and I now regret not getting one.

I saw your pics on DT and am impressed by the Fasco motor.

  • Kule! I haven't seen an earlier Coup model before, thanks for the info Duane!

  • oh the original oasutton vornado company went out in the late 1950's the vornado produced today is a fan brought back from the dead by a guy who was refurbishing old vornadofans and decided to reproduce amodern version of them. the newones came out in the middle 1980's. google vornado histor to see for yourself!

  • Actually I was already aware of that

Vornado began in 1945 by OA Sutton, and closed in 1958 I believe, at which point the name was bought by Two Guys Department Stores, they branded a lot of their electrical appliances as Vornado, TVs, Lamps, Blenders, and yes, Fans. In 1989 Mike Coup restarted the Vornado Company with the plastic reincarnations we see today, and just last year the company was bought out by a former CEO at Coleman.

  • And more and more of their fans are being sourced from China.

  • Just the small 5xx & 6xx series fans are....the bigger ones are still make in Andover

  • @manhoot Yes, their whole room fans are also made in china including their humidifiers, some of their heaters , and the personal fans to.

  • I wish that Vornado still make variable speed fans, but too bad they don't make them anymore.

  • I had this fan, it short circuited and set fire because rain got to the speed controller. Great fan though, wish I could find another window fan

  • How much was this fan new. i just bougt one at a yard sale and I LOVE it!

  • @kennyzhou89 I have one from '05 that I've used nearly every single day of the past 5 years (I live in Florida), sometimes it makes an annoying whirring noise, but that only happens if i turn it off for a while and then back on, it stops after about 20 minutes. Other than that it's amazing.

  • For now. It is being run by Coleman execs whose focus is the bottom line, not keeping americans employed. I hope I'm wrong, but all the zippy, flippi, and touchstone heaters along with the humidifier are made in china.
