I have a mental image of your experience hearing this song for the first time. It is lovely, and always reminds me of my parents. This is a nice rendition; I suppose Perry Como's is the best-known; but the 1930 or '31 performance by Carson Robison and Frank Luther as "Bud and Joe Billings" is by far the most charming, and was made when the song was new. Such a beautiful and sweet song. I wish I could go back in time if only for the duration of this song, just to feel what it was like to live in a time when people stopped to smell the roses and strolled down sunset trails. Without the distractions that accompany life today, that is, such as cell phones, video games, skyscrapers and even the modern transportation system. Today is my 4-year wedding anniversary, and I hope we have the spirit of this song throughout our lives.
