Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen "Nuch" Trutanich stunned the City Council Tuesday when he announced that his investigation of how the city wound up liable for the costs of the Michael Jackson funeral at Staples Center would lead to civil and criminal charges. He disclosed documents were being sought from officials of Staples and LA Live, both owned by Denver billionaire Phil Anschutz's AEG company. He declined to disclose details, saying the investigation is continuing. The council then met with him behind closed doors for more than an hour to discuss the civil case.
