I prefer what happens in the game to him tripping and being attacked while downed. In the game your party can't back him up because the cave is too narrow, so instead they cheer him on. He completely stops dueling the twin dragons, turns around, and polite asks your party to be quite because he can't concentrate on the fight. While this is happening the twin dragons attack him, and well, you see the after math from the anime. And yes, he does blame your entire party for what has happen to him...

I'm playing through SO2 again. I was about to attempt to recruit Opera and Ernest, but I just couldn't imagine surviving through the game's events without Ashton's powerful specialty moves!
