About the story: The story of Giselle is considered one of the classics of contemporary ballet. A story of love that finds tragedy when Giselle, a peasant from a small village, discovers that her new love is actually Count Alberecht in disguise; who is engaged to another. Giselles discovery is so shocking that she takes her own life. The second act opens in the forest where Giselle has been laid to rest and tells of her encounters with a group of female ghosts out looking to revenge their own immortal heart aches. Into this scene comes the repentant Count begging Giselles forgiveness. Through her forgiveness, and the protection of her love, Giselle successfully warns off the other female spirits who seek to destroy him. It becomes apparent with the sunrise that she has saved him but all he can do is lay her body back to rest.

About the company: The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s and incorporated graduates from the great Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Perm. Today, the company is its own institution, with a full compliment of dancers of singular instruction and vast experience, many of whom have been with the company since its inception.
