How to tie a Sebile Knot by Jay Withers a Saltyshores How to Series. Sebile fishing knot is a very low profile line to leader knot used mainly when tying braid to mono connection. 100% knot strength.

  • This is a hell of a knot. I've tied everything from Alberto to Uni-Uni knots and this hands down kills them for strength and slimmer profile for your guides. It's super minimal coming back through the guides, even more so when you burn or "mushroom" the end of your flouro or mono.

All of the "chinese fingertrap" style knots (PR, Sebile, GT, etc), should be your go-to knots for making braid to leader connections. They are a bitch to tie at first but well worth the effort.

  • If you're using a leader long enough it would require you to reel the knot into the guides this knot is useless. It'll hang up every time. Goes out the guides great but hangs up coming in. Uni to Uni is a better, simpler, faster knot that won't hang nearly as much as this one.

  • pretty decent knot, only thing I wonder is why he left a significant amount of fluro. I'm pretty sure that will catch on the guides when you are reeling in and also cause damage to the rod guides. not sure how much damage, but something to think about.

  • theres a smoother cleaner version i posted of this knot. its just a way easier way smoother style of the knot that sebile copied. no offense. i take no credit for the knot i just want ppl to land more fish. i called it the gt knot cause thats what this essentially is but tied a whole lot easier and faster! thnaks for posting this knot or i never wouldve been able to improve on it! im going to be posting more vids soon of 100's of knots (most are worthless though lol)

  • I now use this knot every time for offshore fishing. I do 11 wraps to be sure and has never never sliped or broken. I have tested this knot on my 50lb braid and 60lb fluro and has broken at a crazy 15kg of pressure. there is a point when the braid does cut through i think. I was also after a few tight sessions of fishing. You should re do a fresh knot every time fishing... Make sure each wrap is tight, keep the knot inbetween your thumbs until you half hitch it off. AAA+

  • Just tie an albright knot, just as strong, less steps

  • @rpd7190 I dont know for sure but maybe wrap it more like 25-30 times rather than 10 and burn the tag end of the floro to make it "mushroom". I used the FG knot with 30lb suffix braid to 30 mono leader and it worked great.

  • @trollfury

before you add the first half hitch, give the "X wraps" a good pull down while holding the tag end of the mono in your teeth, you have to lock that wraps firmly on the mono/fluro line before you add the first half hitch/overhead knot.

  • Its just another way of tying the FG knot, it's preferable to add a few more half hitch's only on the braid to finish that knot.

the half hitch's on the braid will protect it from rubbing against the tag end of the mono/fluro and the other benefit is to degrade the difference between the two lines diameter, it will give the line a better movement in the rod guides while retrieving it.

  • I'm sorry but I cannot get my 30lb braid to lock up on 15lb fluoro. No matter what I do.
