Pit Bulls are probably one of the most misunderstood breeds and they have the lowest adoption rate to prove it. The first step in changing this trend is to equip the public with the information and resources necessary to make knowledgeable and educated decisions regarding adoption/ownership of these types of dogs...

As with any other type of dog, proper training of your pit bull can determine whether dog ownership is viewed as a success or a failure. Any breed of dog that is not properly trained or socialized can potentially become aggressive to its owner or family. With so many resources available, why not make the decision to gather as much information and training as possible? Remember, just as we have our own distinct personalities, our dogs have theirs....

Pit bulls have a long history. Unfortunately, people only use the portion of their history that supports their personal interest. For instance, if you want to portray pit bulls as vicious fighters, you can highlight this portion of their history and ignore the rest. If you want to portray them as heroes, you can point out Stubby, who was an honored soldier in WWI. If you want people to see them as family pets who are great with children, you can use Pete from The Little Rascals as an example. However, when considering the fate of this breed, you must consider his entire history. The constant theme throughout the pit bulls history is that, as with most terriers, they are easy to train and want to please their owners. It is up to their owners to determine what their dog will become. Will she be a fighting dog, a hero, or a loving family dog? As their history has shown, they have the potential to do exceptional things. Training determines whether those exceptional things are positive or negative....

all three of our pits came from the shelter. best companions we ever had. just got another one in june 2011. luv him to pieces. wish we could take more. idiots continue to think pet stores sell quality dogs. WRONG!

@cutright42585 they were created to kill bulls so yeah there is some fucking aggression there, so soldiers are taught and trained to kill when they come home after war is over if they show signs of aggression should we kill them they were created to kill as well i know youve heard soldiers refer to "its hard to turn off and be normal"

@cutright42585 how do you determine a pit there isnt a fuckin blood test or dna test that says a dog is pit it is determined by a person with good knowledge of the breed and its standards then determined unless dog is registered and can be tracked into 1800 when breed was created and i dont know a bloodline that can do that so when a dog attacks a person if it has any pit quality to it they slap the pitbull name on it and everyone thinks pits are the only dogs that attack humans

@vlweb3d origionaly built for bull baiting animal aggression is part of the breed but human aggression is not natural characteristic in the breed we killed that out of them in early 1900's grant it there are pits with human aggression, due to idiot breeders and owners but to say kill the whole breed like saying kill a certain type of race of people cause a percentage of them are murders or rapist

I own 3 APBT i have 2 children 4 and 5 and never any incident with aggression ive had kids knocked on there butts because of a energetic dog barreling down hallway but nothing serious whatsoever so the person that summed it up with stupid humans comment props to ya. I think that if a human went through what alot of pits go through we would prob be just as aggressive.
