Wonderful insight, thank you for sharing. I'm a huge fan and just bought a lithograph - I hope this is the start of my collection of your work!

Parkes is working in the tradition of the 19th Century Neoclassical Academics. The Postmodern art establishment doesn't consider his work to be fine art but commercial illustration for the uneducated masses. They're wrong, of course.

@TheForwardGaze Thanks for the kind comment! Doesn't bother me what most critics say. History has proven so many of them wrong. I do answer a lot of questions on my art on my Facebook page if you are interested. Michael Parkes

Hello, I'm a big fan and love your work! How long do you wait for the paint to dry in between layers? Also what main colors do you use to mix your colors?

The secret is to paint two or three paintings at a time and in rotation it gives you four to six days for each layer of paint to dry sufficiently. The under paintings are done almost completely in the umbers with lamp black and titian white. Then the brighter colors, like the cadmiums, are glazed over the top. Hope that helps!
