This man absolutely owns this song !

Arthur Prysock was an American jazz singer best known for his live shows and his deep soulful baritone voice. He has often been characterized as a deep-voiced Billy Eckstine, and his singing style was very similar. He joined bandleader Buddy Johnson as a vocalist in 1944 and became a mainstay of the live performance circuits. He sang on several of Johnson's hits including "Jet My Love", "I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone", and "Because". He gained much attention for his tender, soulful singing on a beer commercial, "Tonight, tonight, let it be Löwenbräu." He had a surprise disco hit with "When Love Is New" in 1977, and much of his older recordings regained attention. He received a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1995. This selection is from his album "Morning, Noon And Night—The Collection".

  • @acrandum I glad you both enjoyed and approved. Your grandfather has been one of my favorites since I first heard him over 40 years ago. I'm an old Carolina boy, too, and almost went to school at Wofford in Spartanburg (his home town). I have several more of his (MY) favorites that I will probably be posting in the future.

  • Just like his version of From Here To Eternity, I believe this is also the definitive version of Autumn In New York. His delivery is always superb. Arthur should have received much greater recognition during his career. Many thanks for posting this treasure of American music!

  • Was married to his cousin marsha price . Wow we always had a great time when Arthur and Red came to town. Arthur was a great singer and Red was one of the funnyest person I have ever met. Miss the hell out of both of them. R.I.P

  • There may never be another voice such as his. I thank my father for playing his music when I was a teenager. I have never stopped listening to this magnificent voice. Mr. Prysock's death was a shock to me. In the end we all have a date with death but the music lives on.

  • @acrandum He is my grandfather too, but I never got to meet him... <3
