IABC/Toronto's Social Responsibility Committee invites you to join this team building volunteer initiative to make a difference for Evergreen, a Toronto-based national charity that makes cities more liveable by deepening the connection between people and nature.

Evergreen Brick Works, originally the site of a derelict brick factory in the heart of Torontos Don River Valley, is being transformed into Canadas first large-scale environmental community centre for hands-on action that explores how we can create more sustainable cities. Scheduled to open in 2010, it will be a destination for families and individuals to enjoy a natural refuge as well as gardening workshops, heritage tours, pottery-making, organic food markets, a retail nursery and leading-edge green design techniques.

Evergreen needs your help to build the heritage site! Volunteer naturalization activities might include picking up a shovel and wheel barrel to build native plant beds for youth in summer camps and school groups. Stay tuned for complete volunteer activity description.

The IABC Volunteer initiative includes environmentally friendly transportation to and from Evergreen Brick Works, a sustainable cities educational tour of the site featuring the Farmers Market and Native Plant Nursery, the volunteer naturalization activity and a healthy picnic lunch featuring local and organic food by Vert Catering, a local caterer committed to producing less landfill waste than any other caterer in the city. Plus, participants will be the first to receive a copy of The Green Guide for Communicators, an IABC/Toronto Social Responsibility committee member initiative.

The $45 US/$50 CDN fee covers transportation and a healthy lunch. IABC International will also make a donation to Evergreen Brick Works.

Pre-registration is required for this event. The deadline to register is Friday, May 28. Click here to register for this event.
