About 20 million female bats, mostly Mexican free tail, emerge from their roost in Bracken Bat Cave, about an hour from Austin, Texas. They'll fly much of the night, heading due east (away from the setting sun), to feast on corn silk moths and other tasty critters. How many tons of harmful insects will the bats devour in a night? Do the math! Only a few ounces times 20 million is... a lot!
