Visit http://earthquakedog.blogspot.com/ for the full story. ... Sophie is seen 15 seconds prior to the start of the earthquake, looking sharply at the floor and dismissing it. About 15 seconds later she again looks sharply at the floor and bolts to the other end of the room when the rumble starts, trying to locate her owner -- who is not the first person out the door, but the third person out, Jessica. Sophie can be seen directly behind Jessica as her back and tail graze the lower right-hand corner of the screen in the first segment. In the second segment Sophie spotted Jessica coming from the sink where she was washing her hands and ran to catch up. She then escorts Jessica safely down the stairs and out of the building. • Dogs have keener hearing and sense of smell than humans. When a quake happens, there is a sub-audible (to human ears) rumble. They can detect vibration and changes in the air that we'd not notice. It's all very true and anyone who knows dogs would know this.

  • damn that dog was haulin ass!.. hope everyone was ok

  • Man's best friend. Dog was running to it's owner. Dogs kick ASS!!!

  • @SisterSunnshine hahahahaha cutie dog =P

  • The dog most likely detect the P-wave from the earthquake, this is a fast moving but relatively weak shockwave, that only gives a vetical movement of the ground.

    The longer away from the quake you are, the longer time you will have between the P-wave... and the powerfull and destructive S-wave.

    P=Primary S=Secondary

  • Cool! My beagle slept through an earthquake once seriously lol

  • Wow, so the dog takes off three quarters of a second before the drawer opens?

    Not shocking, since the dog was laying on the floor and probably heard the earthquake happening.

    "senses" yeah, hearing, feeling.. just like most other chordates.

  • run like the wind doggy
