The NIKE Corporation places orders with factories throughout the greater Jakarta area in Indonesia. Many thousands of workers are employed in the production of Nike products. Along the way, the company is able to track information about working conditions in the factories that produce its products. Issues affecting workplace well-being are generally well understood and it is not difficult to make decisions that will improve well being.

However, there is relatively little information on what happens when workers leave the factories at the end of their shifts. To understand what affects the well-being of communities and the workers who live in them, to understand their needs and see the problem through the eyes of the workers, Mercy Corps conducted a comprehensive research in mid 2009 and proposed innovative solutions for these communities.
