@mmm2ya Because Manning and Lewis couldn't play defense and Manning threw a couple of bad picks against the Gators. The defense matured a year later, and Tennessee finally did win the national championship even though Manning was gone and Lewis missed the last nine games. The UT coaching staff did make a very bad mistake by not using Lewis more in the '97 UF game, though.
