well the guide tells you about the babel fish and a towel when shown to a non hitch hiker, the nhh will think that since the hitch hiker knows where his towel is he also has a very large amount of objects and will gladely give the hh what ever he may have "lost"

"man can never live long enough to find out everything that exists on the earth"True, but limited. How about "man can never live long enough to find out everything that exists in SPACE". Think about it. If the space is practically limitless, isn't it actually likely that in some place there are these fishes? :D Anyway it's fun to think it's possible anyway
