this look like a reenactment of the old dance and not the show dance.
They even put the mute (some kind of jester or fool). This is one of the calusari dances but not the fastest one.
The Moldavian version is also nice.
Strangely but it looks like the Morris dancers ahve something in common with this dance as well.

The real romanian version of "Calusarii" (red kelusharii) is a men dance, a misthic dance with curative purpose against bad spirits and human diseases (especially psihical diseases).Calusarii is an ancient dance since getaes-dacians (thracian family people), romanians ancestors. Did anybody know an older dance ?

Dances from Sardinia are extremely old (certainly preroman) and are also reminiscent of old tribal beliefs/rites. Mostly an agro-pastoral society until the 1960s, Sardinia has kept most of its very ancient cultural heritage. Salutari spre Romania!
