this is a poor generalization. there are plenty of mushrooms that can be consumed raw, but some should be cooked. the highly prized morel mushroom in many cases causes gastric upset when consumed raw.

@magical11 You are blind. You only and I mean ONLY said mushrooms found in restaurant salads. Restaurants do not only serve button mushrooms, so your assumption that everyone will know you are referring to button mushrooms specifically. Second, this man is not talking about button mushrooms, he is talking about mushrooms in general. Stop turning an actually informative video and trying to prove it wrong by using one tiny tiny example. Washing a potentially toxic mushroom does not make it safe.

@KrysNolatari You LRread and listen first.

@KrysNolatari No. You said raw mushrooms found in salads at restaurants, so I assumed you meant a high class establishment that actually served real mushrooms. Second, I never said you said they were vegetables, I just said they aren't like vegetables. And finally, this man's "attitude" towards mushrooms is almost 100% true. You have one example of one kind of mushroom that can be eaten raw. Almost all others can't. Your mockery of him just exhibits your stupidity.

@magical11 I never said they were vegetables. I never said they were easy to digest or even healthy for you, nutritionally speaking, in a raw state. I was referring to the small button mushrooms you typically find sliced and added to salads in restaurants. Unless you have an allergy to such a mushroom, they are perfectly safe raw, if cleaned and prepared properly. What you fail to realize is that I was making a mockery of this guys absolute attitude toward all raw mushrooms. L2read

@KrysNolatari Raw mushrooms have chemicals in them that can cause problems. Plus they aren't vegetables, they are extrememly difficult to digest raw. And if a restaurant served you raw pig meat, bon appetit? Please do a bit of reasearch, before swinging your rude opinions around. And the people who upvoted your comment...

most mushrooms are to toxic to eat even cooked, some are edible if the toxin is destroyed by cooking, some are toxic but you will never know it because they didnt make you sick. and then some people are more sensitive to toxins more than others. some are poison only is eaten with alcohol. they really are pretty tasteless when not cooked its like why bother.

@redtsika Beats me. I can understand some of the "exotic" mushrooms such as oyster, woodear, etc. But "button" mushrooms and portobella (sp?) mushrooms are often fine raw. They just have to be properly washed. I try to cut off the very bottom portion of the stems or remove it entirely. But that's personal preference.
so the raw mushrooms in my salad at a restaurant are dangerous? idiot >.<...What you mean to say is, dont eat raw UNWASHED mushrooms, because of bugs, dirt, insecticides, herbicides, organic and inorganic fertilizers. But then that should apply to all raw fruits and veggies.
