Video taken in the New Mexico Manzano Mountains @ 6,200 FT, Mar. 25, 2009 with temps in the mid 50's and windy!! sorry about the wind exposed mic....but this is a REAL field test demonstration recorded in a real life camping/backpacking environment...not just someones back yard, garage, or parking lot....... In other words: "This is the REAL DEAL IN THE RAW!" This is my 1st You-Tube video!

  • Thanks for the video - after 30 years away, I'm just backpacking again. Stoves have changed A LOT in that time! Still haven't decided between white gas/diesel/petrol OR a gas canister stove. Pros and cons for both I understand. Can you estimate how long a gas canister lasts you in minutes? That dang stew looks good - making me hungry!

  • @cptexas1 Thanks for watching! Glad you are backpacking again!

There are to sizes of gas canisters. A 4 oz and a 7 oz. If boiling 2 cups of water for breakfast and 2 cups for dinner, you should have enough gas for about/around 4 to 5 days. The 7 oz canister will probably get you about 9 or 10 days. I typically bring two 4 oz canisters in case one should fail or leak. (Hasn't happened yet!)

BTW: The stew was pretty good. Lots of great backpacking food out there to try!

  • Hey, nice fun video. Informative too. I have the very same setup, but my fuel can and the stove fit inside the 700 cup. I also have the smaller cup, which I pack full of coffee, creamer and sweetener. I'm an ugly little guy in the mornin' before I have my coffee. I also have the wind screen but haven't used it yet. It was good to see someone put it to use.

  • @dunfamalb Thanks for watching! This snow peak setup works great when using an alcohol stove setup too. I have a soda stove with a hardware cloth potstand and a small priming pan that can all fit into this snow peak nesting system... even the 450 cup! I'm a big coffee freak too my friend... gotta have it on every trip in the morning.

  • Awesome setup! I have to ask, where did you get that windscreen? (subscribed!)

  • @CDoggsRandoms Thank you! The windscreen can be found at REI (its called the "Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen") and it is specifically designed for the snow peak Giga Power stove. It is a bit heavy because it's make from stainless steel. It costs about $10.00 dollars and in my opinion, it REALLY makes a difference. If you are good at crafting, you can make your own from the bottom of a soup can and save some weight. Thanks for subscribing! I am also subscribed to you. Happy Trails! :-)

  • noticed the bare handed grab of the BOILING WATER POT when pouring into the mountain house....gotta love titanium.....

  • is that coors light in your bag at 5:15? that's essential in nature!

  • Nice vid thnx

  • @CrazyTaileZ Thanks, I thought when you said windscreen, I was thinking a piece of aluminum. I like that design because it doesn't heat up the isobutane/propane canister. Thanks, I will definatly buy that!
