@oscarnotwild obviously, they have their funding and they do have therir audience... but, you have a point there: why? maybe the artist felt like it had to be done this way, as there was no better ? kind of "Peter Zadek at the opera"? artistic reinterpretation of gems of the past always results these discussions I am undecided.... .. but found this one great, esp. from the point of chorus performance and, after all: I just wanted to answer the question "what the heck" cheers ingo

@azobisisobutyronitri Well, why ridicule Weber's opera? If they have the talent, just write their own opera to express their views. Why not doing that instead? No funds, no audience, for such 'wonderful cause"?!

A l'entracte, le Directeur du Festival expliquait combien il était heureux que le chef mette sa personnalité et sa sensibilité au service de l'oeuvre. Il lui semblait évident que les auditeurs connaissaient ce que Weber a écrit et qu'ils pouvaient se rendre compte des particularités apportées. Personnellement, je ne connais pas l'original et ne peux juger.
