The blank look on Joe's face after Weiner asked that question was absolutely priceless. HIs only response was some bullshit about "believing in free enterprise."

I've been watching a lot of this Weiner guy's clips and he pretty much completely destroys everyone he debates, albeit in a classy kind of way.

@utube9000 As to the medical bills issue, if you don't have insurance and you get very sick or are seriously injured, you will obviously go the emergency room. If you cannot pay the bills because they are too high--which is extremely common--then the rest of us basically pay for it in the form of increased premiums and fees. Why should I have to pay for your refusal to insure yourself? Even if you are healthy you could be in an accident, and you would probably leave others footing the bill.

@utube9000 One of the foundational legal cases in American history is Marbury v. Madison, the decision in which famously states that "It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." Everyone still agrees with that. The constitutionality of the reform law has been challenged--the court will decide whether the law is constitutional or not. It's standard stuff. If states could block Obamacare they could block any law, and the union would dissolve.

@bigtimepeace Central to America is the Constitution that the nation was founded upon. No Constitution, no America in my opinion. The Supreme Court should NEVER determine the law of the land, only the law of the case. The states should be able to block Obamacare and I hope they do.

To answer your question: No, you should not have to pay my medical bills if I don't have insurance, I agree with you there.

@utube9000 Don't deign to lecture me about what is or is not American--there is no essential "Americanness," and indeed diversity of thought and belief is one of the things that has characterized this country. The Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether the mandate is constitutional or not--if they agree it is then you'll have to deal with it. Incidentally, don't you think not buying insurance just cause you don't want to is irresponsible? If you get hurt or sick the rest of us have to pay.

You call yourself "bigtimepeace" but there is nothing "peaceful" about using the power of government to force people into doing something they don't want to do. For the first time in US history, the government is forcing people to PURCHASE A PRODUCT WHETHER THEY WANT IT OR NOT. That is simply not American.

Huh? How is health care NOT a commodity? That makes no sense whatsoever! The word "commodity" is defined as "a good for which there is a demand."

OF COURSE health care is a commodity! Weiner is completely 100% wrong!

i don't watch this show at all, but joe strikes me as a guy doing his best to make it seem like he ha s a valid point
