'they try way too hard' seems to be the new code term for 'I don't understand this'.

You just named a load of math rock bands, you just don't like the genre. Stop trying to boil your dislike for math rock down to bands trying too hard, math rock is just not for you so gtfo and stop listening to these bands.

One of the stupider youtube comments sections I've browsed recently

You're right, you just expressed in a better way what I wrote clumsily on purpose. It's annoying to learn that some people feel special just because they like this stuff. This is nothing really special here if you really look back to other references. Unlike what some guys say here, these musicians are no geniuses and their music is just OK. And unpopularity is not the point here. There are great, more unpopular artists who'll never get 2 million views for a song.

No, they do try too hard. You might even listen to more complex stuff and still dislike this.

There is no such thing as music (anything) for hipsters

hipsters just pick up on unpopular things and take little parts to make their own without fully embracing where those parts actually came from.

Math rock just so happens to be unpopular, and thus is, coincidentally, hipster music

Anyway. Since the topic is music, this song you sent reminds me of this one for some reason: (/watch?v=1jaRA6nGyUg). Have you heard it?

Seriously, you don't have to defend a band that will soon be forgotten because of their lack of creativity. I mean, their compositions are loops you can make on Guitar Pro by copy and pasting. Just be a fan, and let me give my opinion. I don't know what happens in anyone's head, but I do know who Patton admires for his work (/watch?v=XDL7I8uSdx0).

Just sympathetic? Atlas was played before FNM's show started here in Athens, Greece, which I can only understand must have been Patton's saying. "And he knows it"? I really like it you know what's going on in Patton's head. Is Patton informed about that? Finally, "a band for hipsters" - well did you know that hipsters always take pride in knowing better and more unknown bands than the rest of us simple folks? Just saying.

Without Stanier, this song would be considerably less than what it is

I understand this music, but I get rss313's point. His message is not spam.
