Maybe not yet, but he still has at least a good 5 years left in him. Depending on what happens, he might belong on that list.
-
@NYRangersfan26 Superstars are names like Glenn Hall, Gump Worsley, Ken Dryden, Billy Smith, Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur etc, etc,.
Do you really think Lundqvist belongs in that list?
-
@NYRangersfan26 I already mentioned the Gold Medal about 2-3 posts ago, winning a gold medal is a team award, not individual. The only way it could be relevant, is if he had to heavily carry the team like Hasek used to in Buffalo. But that isn't the case here, if you saw and remembered that 2006 team, then you know Lundqvist did not carry them, that team was very deep in every position and probably the best team Sweden has ever iced.

@NYRangersfan26 I was using Brodeur as an example of what a super star truly is, he is arguably the greatest goaltender in the history of the NHL and I am not a Devils fan. Winning a cup is a team effort, being a super star is based on personal achievement, Vezina Trophy, shut outs, winning the Conn Smythe like Thomas did because he was the main factor in the Bruins winning the cup.
You can't be a superstar when you have never won any big time individual awards.

Well he does have a gold medal, and he's been nominated for the vezina trophy several times. He's also been selected to many All-Star games.
The thing he hasnt had is a competitive team in front of him for so many years, hopefully that will change in the near future. But without him the Rangers wouldn't have made the playoffs during some of the seasons they did. He's so important to the team, and that's why I think he's a superstar.....even if it's a lower end superstar.
-
@NYRangersfan26 Superstars goaltenders have Vezina trophies or a Conn Smythe or are the pivotal piece to a team winning the Cup.
Henrik has no such things. Don't let your fandom go to your head, he has won nothing.
-
@mrceebees14 Henrik is a superstar, and I never said he's close to what Brodeur has achieved, the Rangers are just not that strong of a team yet. But the point I was trying to make earlier was that most of the players the Rangers have now are young, and it's way too early to give up on any of them.
-
@NYRangersfan26 The Rangers are Lundqvist, that is basically it. The jury is still out of the others, even Callahan, who has to prove himself over a couple more seasons. Please see example A on "flash in the pan" players......Petr Prucha, who is flipping hamburgers in Nashville.
-
@NYRangersfan26 Henrik is not a superstar, that would require some multiple amounts of hardware. Don't think because I mentioned Lundqvist in the same sentence as Brodeur that they have accomplished the same amount, Lundqvist is NOWHERE even close to the greatness Martin Brodeur has achieved in his career.
Lundqvist is a good goaltender, but superstar? ha, no.
-
@mrceebees14 Superstar, yes, i'll agree Hank is the only one we have right now. however, you don't need a team of all superstars to win the cup. the majority of players we currently have are young hard workers with potential for success.
The thing I hate about the rangers is...
In HISTORY, the Devils are better than the rangers...
RIGHT NOW, the Devils are better than the rangers...
What I am trying to say is that the rangers will NEVER be as good as the Devils
