March 17, 2007 - Every weekend we go to the mall before the retails stores open and walk with the other walkers. Here is a vid of my husband with our children Ian and Olivia.
Olivia is 3.5 years old and is using her gait trainer (walker) to aid with her walking. She was born with 22q13 Deletion Syndrome, otherwise known as Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. This syndrome occurs when a microscopic piece on one of the 22nd chromosomes is missing. This effects walking, motor skills and speech.
You can see her brother Ian being of great help and guiding her along. We are hopeful that with perseverance and therapies Olivia will walk unassisted and run after her big brother. This vid may not be very exciting for most, but it is extremely exiting for us. Olivia is our hero.
Hope you enjoy it.
For more information, please visit the http://www.22q13.org web site I designed for the 22q13 Deletion Foundation. That is our little Olivia in the header.
My niece has this syndrome. She's a sweetheart.

How inspiring! My daughter has 22q13. She was in a gait trainer for about 3 months and hated it. She just woke up one day shortly before her 3rd birthday and decided to cruise along the couch. Shortly there after she walked unassisted! We can't stop her now!!! Aren't these kids amazing!!! Keep your head up... if she hasn't already, your little cutie will soon take off!!!
