Texas state legislator [Republican Rep. Betty Brown] suggesting that Asian-Americans might want to change their names to something a little easier to pronounce. Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand its a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here? the Republican lawmaker said, as the House was debating a voter ID bill.

  • I don't agree that because she's an "old lady" that is gives her an excuse to represent Texas in this way, addavisable. I also think that this young man has a lot of guts to get up there and speak about an issue for those who do not have a voice. This is an issue that should speak out to more than just Asian-Americans. There are laws and rules out there that are keeping eligible voters from the polls, and we as the citizens should be knowledgable and involved to make change.

  • lets rename her to a more 'americanized' version, since native americans were here first.....to "white bitch'

  • You don't need to learn Chinese, you just need to learn how to pronounce the name. I'm not Asian, and my name gets mis-prounounced left and right, but I'm an American citizen just like any other citizen of a different ethnicity. So, ma'am, do you want me to change it to something that is more suited to your pronounciation skills?

I'd like to keep my the name my family has given me, thank you very much, and I'm sure many other people do.

  • My name is Tigran Oganesyan, not asian but it's still pretty hard to say for most people, and i'm proud it is, if you ask to give me a nickname before we are even really acquainted you aren't gonna be my friend

Learn to say my name it's not that hard, ti-g-ran that's how it is said, not that hard and yet they find it easier to say names like Charles, Steven or any weird name(although those aren't all that weird -_-), it's not difficult it is basic english, separate and spell that's it

  • Must give kudos to him keeping his cool while that bitch basically belittled both him and his "citizens". And his English is so much better than hers.

  • Funny thing ... The Asian fellow speaks better then a lot of so called 'real' Americans.

  • LMAO you fail

  • Fuck Republican, fucken learn chinese you ignorant bitch

  • Isn't education the foundation of America? If so, why can't people like that old lady learn Asian names? We are Asian Americans, you have to learn our names as well. My response to that old lady request is NO and TOUGH! What happened to your education? Can you learn anymore?

  • oh my god hell no
