AUGUST, 1990 - A short announcement from the then NASHVILLE NETWORK concerning the untimely passing of my most favorite person in the world, LEW DeWITT. I spoke to Denver (Lew's eldest son and my nephew) the other nite about posting this. He gave me his blessing. I haven't had the chance to speak with Donna (MOTOR), Brian (LURBURT) or Shannon (SHINANNAGINS) about posting it just yet. If there's a problem, I'll take it down. I just thought that those who knew him, were fans, friends, or whatever, and hadn't seen this before might be interested. I apologize for the quality of the video. There was not much I could do to improve upon it. Excepting for a quick fade in and out to black, all else is just as it was transmitted on TNN on that sad and mournful day back in August, 1990. With that, I'll just say "I still love ya bud, and we all miss you.....very, very much.

  • Lew was the best tenor ever. He certainly made his mark on the world. He was one of a kind and glad I was a fan during a few years he was still singing. Thanks for the post.

  • @mssandy90

Thanks for taking the time to leave a message. Lew DID have one strong, powerful voice alrite. He was a fine guitar picker as well. Did I mention that he was a much better than average pool player ? ! ? I was, however, known to "pick his pocket" when it came to playing Blackjack. :) Ahhh, the good ol' days.

  • I have no doubt the that Herold, Phil and Don knew of Lew's talents and were heart broken when he passed since he was there with them from the start. What worst then to loose a brother.

  • What was the song he was singing??..I could have danced to all the fast ones..while sitting the slow ones out..sounded very pretty..would love to hear it.

  • I want to hear his solo songs! What a sweet man he seemed to be and what an amazing voice. Thanks for posting.

  • @GooglFascists Totally agree. When I view my DVDs I sit up straight to watch and hear Lew. What a shame, but I'm glad we had him and his talent while we could.

  • Don't know about y'all but to me the Statlers never sounded the

    same without Lew.

  • Such a wonderful man he was. Always spoke to me in passing. His son is just as wonderful as he was.

  • Sad day.

  • @EricEbac22 Like you i assumed he meant #1 in the US but it was #1 in Canada. So Charlie was right, depending on how you look at it.

  • Absolutely one of the greatest voices I have ever witnessed. I truly loved listening to him sing along the rest of the quartet. The Statler Brothers have always been an all time favorite to me. Thank you so much for posting this. God Bless you.
