oh my goodness, you can't get better shakespear from anyone but ian mckellen. i love the way that cordelia is able to feed off him. is there somewhere that i can see the whole production, i wouldn't mind buying a dvd...

It's the fool. In the play Lear says, "my poor fool is hanged". Some people take that to mean a term of endearment for Cordelia, some people think that it's a referance to Cordelia and that the fool and Cordelia were actually the same person and some just take it to mean that the fool was hanged too. Obviously this director took the last option.
It's one of the most distressing bits of the play. Really horrific.
