Oddly, the vast majority of the grouse hunting videos I have seen on YouTube depict ground kills, like the ones in this video - or even shots taken from vehicles. I am from Michigan, and an avid grouse hunter. First, I can't believe these birds are so easily approached (they are not this way in my neck of the woods). Second, while it might be legal to execute the birds in this fashion, and might qualify as "hunting", it is definitely NOT "wingshooting". Personally, I will never do this - never.
To all those nay-sayers on shooting birds on the ground...would you make a turkey fly or a deer run before shooting it?...I hunt ruffed grouse in New Brunswick,Canada. There are more hunters here per capita than any other province.A few hunters use dogs;but by far the greater majority spot and stalk. The cover is thick so it takes a keenly trained eye to spot them. There are lots of predators here too;this keeps the birds wary and difficult to take.
Just in USA for hunt one little bird that with a shot-gun... Here, in Brazil, if you use one air gun with caliber heighter 1.77mm, you is put money in the garbage... But nice try...
don't always need the dog, but get off the road, and take a little more pride in your hunts, dress the part, shoot on the wing and don't be scared to let your camera man follow you instead of making him hault there's plenty of birds flush them and then call yourself a hunter
i have to agree with justlooking34....im a grouse hunter in northern wisconsin and it is nothing like this video...hunting grouse out West isnt a challenge...try hunting in the in the northeast....its much more difficult
OK so I have been a Grouse hunter for about 20 yrs in upstate NY. I would have to agree with the gent from Ireland, it is very unsporting to shoot upland birds on the ground. Now I do know however where ever the birds receive little hunting pressure they can seem tame or even dumb. Try hunting them in NY or the New england states its a whole different story. I have never seen them scurrying around like chickens here, as I have seen in some of these videos. They go off like rockets.
I think that should be illieagle hunting without dogs

Hunting Grouse on roads is illegal in Finland. That is because it is so easy.
What is the point here? That you can kill? Go and shoot rats in a wastedump or something.
But don't call this "hunting"!!

It is legal and ethical, so there.
