blame Paramount for Robert Wise being in such a hurry to finish the damn picture by the damn deadline and therefore he could not make the kind of epic film he wanted to.

When I first saw Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the first time on an old video tape when I was younger, that's when I first realized the origin of the theme.

@Sulaco516 It IS the same theme. It's just arranged differently, and some of it was cut. Unless you're suggesting the theme is the basis for the show TNG, which is what you really wrote.

I thought it was the worst until I saw Generations
-
The movie wasn't finshed in time before the December 7 Release date.

To me it was a good movie, allthough it had pretty much flawes in it. But it was greatly atmospheric if you look at that way.

great theme, lame movie. i like the TOS and the other films with the original people.

This theme was the basis for Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I've always loved this film, even before the completed edition was released in '01. I was 5 when my dad took me to see it and was so captivated by the film's ambiance that I've been a fan ever since. To me, the only flaw is the film's pacing (somewhat rectified in the newer edition). My only complaint was not seeing the Enterprise in any ship-to-ship combat action with the Klingons. Again, this was easily recified by the next two films, which are still my favorites to this day.
