Understanding WW2 - Spanish Civil War - Fascism vs internationalism

Cde Harpal contributes to the discussion on Katt Cremer's excellent talk on the Spanish CIvil War, bringing out the themes of Soviet aid to the Republic, the agenda of the 'democratic' imperialist powers (to appeaze fascism and set it aginst the Soviet UNion and communism), hence their treachery towards the democratically elected government.

THe real juxtaposition is not "democracy vs dictatorship", but workers v capitalists, imperialists v oppressed nations, and imperialists fighting among themselves.

It was the heroism of internationalism and the principled, steadfast, corageous and masterful diplomatic, military and political strength shopwn by workers of many countries under the leadership of the third international and the Societ Union in particular that defeated Fascuism and frustrated their aims on a world scale.

We must draw the lesson that to successfully struggle against imperialism we must rely on unity of action and true anti-imperialist internationalism!

@RebelSonBand Yes, but opposition to the USSR had powerful backers - the imperialists and defeated white (bourgeois and tsarist) forces. Their overt anti-worker anti-bolshevik criticisms were powerless to overcome the wave of Bolshevism that was sweeping the world and undermining their class rule. How convenient to have Trotsky, whom they had regarded as one of the chief villains, to champion their cause for them in the name of "fighting Stalin" - That is why he plagues us still!

@ProletarianCPGBML So we agree,the private POUM fighters was not fascist..And about this guy Trotsky,its a miracle that he has soooo much influence even today,he was nothing then a paralel in history.All he was,was a dissedint refuge,he had nothing new to add,nothing but a opposition to USSR.

@RebelSonBand It is a question of characterising a political trend and seeing its dangers. If persisted in, at critical times of struggle, minor errors can lead to the exact opposite of subjective intentions - and lead one even to the enemy's camp.

@ryler05 Im not big on Trotskyism,its a major mistake,but I have to say ;the low-level POUM fighter grunt did not support fascism..Dont tell me that the fighting men&woman was some kind of fascist in disguess.Its not true,the POUM regular inf.lived and died among all other Republican forces,they were true revolutionaires.We agree that being a Troskyist is a very wrong path but still---they were mis.lead,mistaken,but they did fight for freedom.Their leaders,however,is a total dif.matter.
