Adalbert Lutter Tanz Orch., Refrainges. Die vier Belcantos - Gib acht auf dein Herz, Margarete (Schmitz/ Felz) Telefunken 1935

Adalbert LUTTER (B. 1896, Osnabrueck, Germany. D: 1970, Berlin) was a pianist and a bandleader who formed his own first small band in Hannover, following a stay in South America (1922-'28). From 1932 on, his band played in Berlin in the prestigeous restaurant-variete "Wilhelmshallen" as well as "Europa-Pavilion" and the Roof Garden of the "Cafe Berlin". The orchester made innumerable recordings, mostly for Telefunken (Lutter was a guest conductor at Telefunken). After World War II his was the house orchestra for the Russian Zone East Berlin Radio. In 1961 Lutter gave up his activity in the communist East Germany - just like many other conductors e.g. Otto Dobrindt, who was supposed to become the director of the House Orchestra of the city of Berlin (East) Broadcasts or Bruno Sangster - head of the orchestra of radio of so called German Democratic Republic.

  • @Recordhistorian

Most interesting . The chapel in the Queens bar sounds odd . Fascinated by the old pictures of Berlin pre-war to what it is now and the figures who were part of that group . Tango music has never died but this flavour of Tango is very unique and was possibly very popular at the time . SOme of the old pictures of Cafe Wilhelmshaven show it to be very beautiful but old fashioned by todays standards and what exists there now is 1960,s blocks

  • I found the site of the Cafe Willhemshallen in Berlin , now an ugly 60,s Allianz block . Such a pity that Tango is not the same in Germany as it was in the 20,s & 30s

  • Fine - a lot of work. But you are not "in the know": Uups!

    1) This "Kapelle in the Königin Bar" never exist: An original vintage print of this photo belongs to my private collection!

This was a "fun"-photo while a meeting of then most prominent artists and danceband leaders:

See (left to right): Bernard Etté (with "untypical" to him: trumpet); Oskar Joost (smiling); George Boulanger ("untypical": tenorsax); Trude Hesterberg (with drumssticks); A. Lutter; Otto Stenzel (flute) etc.! Sorry!

Was geschah dem Café WIlhelmshallen?

    Stu
