I read it is based on the character of Jean Shepherd, a friend of the scriptwriter. Shepherd was so upset about the ending he never spoke to the guy again.

I think it's a timeless movie with timeless themes that touch all sensitive human beings. I have seen it countless times and it always affects me immensely.

Couldn't agree more. I grew up in Washington, D.C, and find the biking through the water puddles beautifully shot and emotionally serene and serindipitious. Wonderful stuff.

Just love this movie int he way it captures the era, mood and tom foolery while addressing some serious issues. I also agree with a friend of mine when he said the Barry Gordon stole every scene he was in. This movie is just great fun. Thanks.

Is an intelligent film filled with beauty and humor.
I am a professor of urban design, I teach my students this film with the intention that they become critical.
The film contains an early critique of modern society but also full of beautiful scenes that illustrate the beauty of life in the city. I also love the scenes where Murray takes wing girl to ride bikes or when fired from the passenger at the port.
