Mobile Medical Male Circumcision Clinic Launched: KAMPALA - The United States Government, through the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, in partnership with the Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP), has launched a Medical Male Circumcision (MMC) Mobile Clinic at the UMA Show Grounds on Friday, May 13th at 10:00 am.
The mobile MMC clinic - custom built in South Africa - contains a self contained surgical unit and two surgical beds. It is the first of its kind to bring safe Medical Male Circumcision services to remote areas. It is the only mobile clinic in East Africa for MMC. This innovative MMC service puts PEPFAR at the forefront of evidence-based HIV prevention in Uganda.
The World Health Organization, the Uganda Ministry of Health and scientists worldwide endorse safe MMC as an effective HIV prevention strategy, based on research findings that safe MMC reduces the risk of HIV acquisition of circumcised men by 60%. Safe medical male circumcision protects both men and women by reducing the transmission of HIV, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and some cancers. This breakthrough research is driving a renewed emphasis on MMC in countries hit hard by HIV that have low male circumcision rates. This scientifically-proven HIV prevention method cannot stand alone. We must continue to emphasize other preventive measures such as abstinence, being faithful, and condom use.
Makerere University Walter Reed Project, working in partnership with Kayunga and Mukono districts is training local health care workers, renovating clinics and educating the community about the medical benefits of safe MMC. A new training center in Kayunga teaches safe MMC to Ugandan health care workers. Our goal is to assist the Uganda Ministry of Health and other organizations to educate Ugandans about safe MMC as an effective HIV prevention tool.
MUWRP is a non-profit partnership with Makerere University and the United States Military HIV Research Program (MHRP). MUWRP has been conducting HIV research in Uganda since 1998. Under PEPFAR, MUWRP began prevention, care and treatment activities in 2005. More recently, MUWRP expanded its portfolio to research into other communicable diseases of public health importance in Uganda. Together we are working to build a better future.
Circumcision removes the most sensitive part of a man's penis. The five most sensitive areas of the penis are on the foreskin. The transitional region from the external to the internal foreskin is the most sensitive region of the fully intact penis, and more sensitive than the most sensitive region of the circumcised penis.

@freedom0speech There's strong scientific evidence that MMC reduces the risk of HIV infection by about 60%. WHO and Health Ministry in Uganda recommend MMC. The MMC package includes: intensive health counseling, safe surgery, and follow-up medical care. MMC candidates are advised to continue to use condoms and practice safe sex even after MMC. In the context of HIV/AIDS in rural sub-Saharan Africa, MMC is a powerful new tool for men to protect themselves, and their families, from HIV infection

WTF does male circumcision have to do with HIV and AIDS? Any circumcision should be considered child abuse.
