Magnificent vocal performance. The song's obviously talking about depression of which she suffered on and off during her life. I suffer from depression as well so this song is both sad, yet poetic to me.

in 1975 i was 10 years old and i caught "scarlet fever" , I was locked in a room for 6 days so i didn't infect my brothers and sister. My mom bought me food and drink and took pity on my by giving me books and a record player. she also gave me all her carpenters albums. I ended up listening to the carpenters over and over. when i came out of that room i knew karen personally ( i felt) . I'm grown now with kids and grandkids, but i'll never forget how her voice comforted me back then

rainy days and mondays and karen carpenter always get me down!

@definitedoll yeah with the "hot" pick-ups so you can really hear the sound of the strings up against the frets.

I love that early 1970's bass. Sounds like "the sound" at that time that they used in other songs of that era. Miss it greatly!
