@danaden88 , of course the shias focus on Allah swt and the Messenger. On these days though the focus is ahlul bayt because of the amount of hardship they endured and the sacrifice they gave Islam. The prophet said that Hussain is from me and i am from hussain, meaning whomsoever upsets hussain upsets Muhammad saw therefore upsetting Allah swt, and the same goes for whoever pleases him. Dear Brother! If you belong to religion 'Islam', I don't think it's an issue for you to understand the reason for such mourning.

Every year we remembered the sacrifice of Hazrat Abrahim(A.S) and Hazrat Ismail(A.S.) by sacrificing our animal irrespective of the fact that it happened centuries of years ago. How can we forget the sacrifice the Imam-e-Hussain(A.S.) whose sacrificed everything for Islam.

Did these mourners just find out about the demise of the Prophet's grandson. I understand he wanted to challenge Yazid a fellow muslim ruler for the Caliphate.
