Hey sax-journey,here's another effort to checkout. You are right about the sharp sound. A new reed & better control I think. So you're also in a Community Band ?
My first sax teacher Andy Hamilton MBE put the 'NOTEBENDERS' together. Most of us are or was his students. But at 92yrs old we get our musical direction from band leaders Chris & Huw Morgan.

  • Sounds better & I you're playin' with some feeling; it comes through your axe. What is your recording set up? I used my computer mic initially when recording but after hearing others play who used earphones & an external mic, I've started recording with an external mic and utilizing either garage band (found on the MAC computer) or Audacity (which can be downloaded for free) for better sound quality. The community band I'm in is great for pushing me forward; I suspect the same is true for u.

  • @MySaxophoneJourney Tanx man but I'm sure I'll get it better once I really know what I'm doing ;-)

As for the recording it's just my JVC camcorder. What really helps is my Meyer mouthpiece 6* and I've got a Yamaha 62 Alto plus Andy Hamilton always tells me, blow sweet & soft. Whats your Bands name ?

  • I'm diggin it...

  • @curtnizz The band name is the Ellington-Adderley African American Community Jazz Band. Your JVC picks up sound good but check out crazydaisydoo (Matthew Stone) you tube channel to see how he records his horn (he has a great sound but he makes it sound even better by how he records). Look for his two part tutorial on his site for how he records. He uses a MAC, audio interface, good external mic, and earphones. If you search crazydaisdoo recording you should get to his two part tutorial.
