@FeceMcGee It's an IEM / Earpiece recording (IEM - in ear monitors) that band members wear on-stage for isolating their output in a song so they can hear themselves, and hear various different pre-recorded audio cues (count-ins, chorus, bridge etc) to keep band members singing from the same hymn sheet so to speak. IEM feeds are usually broadcast meaning that if you know what you are doing and have the right equipment you intercept the feed and record it.

It's kareoke folks...but not as we know it..lol

verse 1,2,3,4....

@TheJake0705 No Jake, the voice you hear is recorded into the backing track. There isn't anyone counting live.

yeah, most big bands use this same concept. its just helpful and keeps every member of the band on lock. if youre a musician you know how difficult it can be to find a drummer who stays on time without a metronome or click track. also if loops and pre recorded tracks are used, this is very beneficial. just adds to the profesionalism.

The 1234 acts like a metronome so they keep the same tempo. Larry Mullins also uses a "click" track to keep a steady tempo. They talk about it in U2 by U2. They admit they are not technically proficient. No matter, the entertainment is great.

the 1234 are countdowns to the stage light crew..

@FeceMcGee The entire band play to a click track (usually a percussion loop) to keep them in-sync with pre-recorded parts, maintain the right tempo, and to assist with section cues. They do this with virtually every song.

do they each here this muffled shit and counting in their ear monitors? seems like it would make it hard to play. sounds so weird!
is all the music live and someone is counting 1, 2, 3, 4? or is some of the music part of a pre-recorded track that goes into his ear?

@FeceMcGee The music is live from the show. Bono, for whatever reason, has this timing signature added in to keep him on track vocally I guess!

Is this real? If it is, how did you get it? Just wondering:)

@iTootleWithVigor It is real. And I got it from someone I know who found it out there on the web. I'd love to know who and how it was originally put out there but I have no clue either!
