The Leopard 2 has never used Chobham armour and its own ceramic composite armour package actually predates the introduction of Chobham.

The latest versions of the M1 Abram no longer use Chobham, it is obsolete now.

All the NATO MBTs M1 Abrams, Leopard 2 and Challenger 2 weigh the same as per NATO STANAG

The XM1 was built by Chrysler Defense before the M1 program was taken over by General Dynamics.. neither company provided any major design work, some of the later work was sub-contract to Krauss Maffei in Germany. The M1 Abrams is a German tank built in the U.S.

You wouldn't know the difference between alumina and silicon carbide even if stuck it up your ass.

Canada rented them, the Netherlands sold them, Portugal uses 40 Leopard 2A6, and Spain also use them. 16 Countries? How many Leopard II were exported? Nearly 2000? How many Abrams were exported? 2700. Also Saudi Arabia wants to buy 60, and Egypt even 500 more.

@doktorbimmer: The M256 isn't a cheap copy, its made by Watervliet Arsenal. Also the Abrams uses the better FCS, more advanced optics & laser-range finder as the Leo II. But as you said, the Abrams is cheaper as the Leopard II, and this is good. The M1 was never designed by KMW. And the new XM360 Cannon is far superior to L/55 120mm & 140mm, and its made in the US aswell.

@ToAstYNaChO Wrong! the M256 is a cheap copy of the L/44, it is built in the US under license from Rheinmetall. The US version is not balanced like the L/44 and uses a cheaper spring based recoil system.

In fact the whole tank is a cheap copy of the Leopard 2 for that matter, the M1 originally designed in Germany by Krauss Maffei during the MBT-70 and XM803 program and later was simply a name change to XM1

@kovona When we sell tanks such as the M1A1 we take out things that could give them the edge if we ever potentially engaged in combat, such as the Depleted uranium mesh in the armor.
