A brief concept overview of multi-track or multiple layer video editing. This is not a "how-to" but rather a short visual demonstration of this concept intended for people whose prior experience with video editing is relative to single layer applications such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker.

This is a test project and may be followed up with more editions covering concepts such as camcorder video formats, basic audio and lighting techniques, and analogue-to-digital or film-to-video conversion.

Enjoy.

  • Very good piece. I liked your style and approach. Very informative!

  • @billysscreeningroom2 Thank you very much.

  • Very good overview Jon... this is exactly the kind of stuff I had to figure out the hard way..

Not being able to afford $1,000 software I found it to my advantage to use more than one program in consecutive order to edit and render my videos so they don't have that "cookie cutter' look them.

Once again thanks for sharing! :)))

  • @ZmajSnoshaj And the results of your efforts are very evident. You achieve a unique look that you put a lot of thought and work into.

I made this particular piece a couple of years ago as a means to help articulate the concept for a community class I was working with. I have since decided to use it as a basis for an extrapolated series of dv related concepts - turning it into an ongoing web series. It will have its own dedicated channel, but when it launches I will ping that channel to notify.

  • Great introduction to multiple layer editing. Spread the word!

  • Nice tutorial !

  • I am by no means a wiz with Vegas, it is like anything else, one needs to spend the time with it in order to get good

  • ok, thank you

  • Vegas is pretty highly regarded by its users, and in fact passionately embraced by a very loyal base, perhaps most notably for its efficient and stable workflow.

  • Thank you. I am currently in the process of producing an entire series of tutorial shorts in a fashion similar to this covering a whole range of dv related topics, and they will begin uploading weekly beginning around mid spring of this year. They will be on a different channel, but subscribe to this one and you'll be notified when they launch.
