We took a drive to the store to confirm what we heard from our pizza delivery person this evening - The pet store is dismantling, packing up and moving out of its Warrenville location. We were told that the puppies were removed from the premises earlier today and placed in a U Haul (which would seem to be an illegal form of transportation for animals, or at the very least, inhumane, seeing as how hot it was today). For now, this is a small victory. One store closed in the chain of puppy mill operatives does not incite a celebration, but inspires us to continue on in the task of education and extension of kindness where there might be cruelty. We will hold a future demonstration (date to be determined) at another HIP (location to be determined) when scheduling allows. We will keep you posted. In the mean time, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all that were able to participate in the demonstrations in front of this store. It was successful and fun! Pup Power !!!!! • Good Job! I hate to burst your bubble, but they just opened their new store in Oak Lawn, Illinois. That is why they closed the warrenville store and most likely where most of the puppies went.

Good luck protesting the new one.

  • Thanx, but we already knew about the oak lawn store. I doubt it will do any better than the store that was here in our town. 3 reasons: 1. The economy 2. Millions of people saw Oprah's enlightening investigative show on puppy mills 3. People are wiser and more compassionate than they used to be (o:

  • I hate people who breed dogs just for the money and the people who sell the puppies at these stores are just as bad.

  • I totally understand your feelings. But usually the people selling these puppies at the stores are teen-aged girls who just don't know any better. They do not know exactly where these adorable puppies come from and the horrid conditions the parent dogs are kept in. That is why we will continue to try and educate the public in any way that we can (legally of course!).

  • You shouldnt be happy, all the damn puppies where taken away in a UHalh truck! that's worse than actually being at the pet store....

  • Whenever I talk to people who have "just gotten a puppy" or are "considering getting a dog," I always give them the lowdown on pet stores and puppy mills.

It's horrific that each year, more than 8 million dogs (and cats!) are euthanized in animal shelters in the USA because no one is there to adopt them! Each day, 50,000 puppies and kittens and 10,000 human babies are born in this country. This means that until we stop mass-breeding pets, there will NEVER be enough homes for them all!

  • good job. I have seen these puppy mills. disgusting.

  • what I mostly ment was the store owners not the employes. but it is very sad too that these young kids working at these places are taught to beleave that it's OK to sell a puppy to someone you've never even talked to before or have done any background check on. it's a shame that many dogs today have to live with owners that although they know how to feed and keep a dog alive they really don't know anything about dog phsycology, and that dogs have different emotional needs than humans.
