Surprise! Military Grade Weapons at Gun Buyback

"Two rocket launchers turned into the Los Angeles Police Department as part of the city's gun buyback event this week and displayed by the police chief and mayor did not have the capacity to fire. But the department will examine the origins of the weapons with the military, police said Friday.

The two launchers--long metal tubes that were once capable of propelling rocket grenades--were turned in along with 2,037 weapons at a gun buyback Wednesday, and exchanged for supermarket gift cards."*

A huge number of handguns, assault weapons, and shotguns were turned in at the LAPD's gun buyback program. And since the event was "no questions asked" 2 huge, military grade weapons were turned in. We have gun amnesties here now and then. Basically this means the local police force issues a photo small enough that most people won't see the scary cache of 'guns' is really a bunch of toys, rusting air-rifles or broken airsoft guns that people couldn't be bothered to bin etc. No criminal is going to hand in an illegal firearm, not since prohibition made them so valuable.
