Currently editing the After Math for the HEART Team at the Fire department.. I need some more flood footage as I was unable to shoot on the day because we were evacuating people, sand bagging etc. But I captured the destruction over the last three days. which is interesting. 1973 is my number and in all day today editing

Bad Mother Nature, but good footage, Gary. We know folks who lost their vintage cabin. So sad.

64 was the bad one but you have to remember the houses and populated areas where different then. The river has changed, many of the houses in 64 are gone etc. Another thing about 64 is that we had allot of snow on the ground which was different to this one. The easterly came in warm and we had a fast melt. If we had the same geographic placement of the river and all the houses in 64 were still here, you would of seen house floating down the river along with cars and everything else..

Hi Randall - I was on the Hood River side of the hill back then. I was six years old and remember after the flood the most when the Army Corp of Engineers had D8 Cats in the river trying to push boulders up the banks to control the river... of course that worked out well. : )
They did the same thing in the Sandy River over here on this side of the hill.
Cheers buddy!

Also, didn't the warm wind come in from the west in '64??

@Wonderfulness I would have to check I was just writting from memory because I was trapped in Mountain Air Park. Everyone back then said it was a chanook wind which is incorrect but none the less is was warm. Yes the ACE was here and my dad and grandfather volunteered to help with the 26. I have a few fairly vidid memories of cars and houses going down the Sandy. I think Purdy even situated some cars to divert the river back then. Times were very different. then. Now we have experts.

About an 7.5. Nothing like some of the epic floods like 1962. That would be close to a 10.

I meant to say '64. : )
