@shipleyshipster When people say Mac vs Pc, they are referring to Windows Vs Mac OS X. Apple is both a hardware manufacturer, and an operating system manufacturer. Microsoft puts out the operating systems for computers only. So when you replace OS X with Windows, you are essentially turning it from a Mac computer to a Windows computer. It is still an Apple computer, but it is no longer a Mac.

I dont know if you can upgrade a macpro at a normal computer store, if not then it is almost guaranteed that the price of installation will be expensive. Naturally if you require windows to run a 5870, you might as well use a windows and suffer all the possible consequences of using windows. As for subscriptions for antivirus, they cost what 30-100 dollars a year max. However this cost is minute compared to the thousands of dollars you pay extra for a mac on par with a similar pc

@reiVond Also to consider in total cost of ownership: What's the cost of an anti-virus subscription, anti-spyware subscription, and anything else you plan to use with the computer? 2: I've read online that if you want to, you can use a 5870 if you run Windows on the Mac Pro.
